Roman olearia, Dressel 20 type:

It was used to transport olive oil from Roman Hispania to Rome.

Most of the export of olive oil was carried out from Baetica, and especially from Cordoba and Híspalis, the places where these vessels were made.

This type was the most commonly used. It was globular in shape and had very sturdy handles, with a capacity of around 30 litres.

The inscriptions that can be seen reveal the traceability that was already being rigorously carried out in those years. On arrival in Rome, the vessels were thrown onto the so-called Testaccio hill: an artificial hill of some 20,000 m2 made up of these used olearia.
